Scenery

The settlements are mainly found along the coasts, creating a lot of space in-between for wildlife. Aspö mostly consists of bedrock that makes its topography rather varied. The nature is diverse, being a mixture of the more wooded islands of the archipelagos further north along the Swedish East-coast and the more bare and rocky islands of the archipelagos of the West-coast. The Northern and Central parts are dominated by a pine tree forest (Photo 21), and the other parts by a deciduous forest, mainly of oaks. Due to the many meadows and marshes of these forests, there is a good mix of various biotopes on the island. Deserted quarries and sandpits also contribute to this diversity (Photo 22). Photos 23-27 further illustrate the beautiful scenery of Aspö.
