The Diptera or flies are divided into a number of groups. Based on the ‘Nationalnyckeln (Artdatabanken, 2009)’, the presentation of the hoverflies (Syrphidae) are separated into two subfamilies:
- Hoverflies – Syrphinae
- Hoverflies – Eristalinae
The other families are:

- Robber Flies and Stiletto Flies
- Beeflies
- Thick-headed Flies
- Tachinid Flies
- Other Diptera: Root Maggots, Dung Flies, Blow Flies and Flesh Flies
